This webpage contains information about the Student Health Insurance Plan made available to students through Bates College. This plan has been developed especially for Bates College students. The plan provides benefits for covered medical expenses that occur on and off campus, on a world-wide basis, 24 hours per day, during the period for which premium has been paid.
All Students are required to have health insurance coverage. Domestic students are asked annually to either enroll in the Bates College Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or to request to waive the coverage if they are covered through another comparable insurance policy. Enrollment or the request to waive is completed through access to an Insurance link in the Garnet Gateway. The Enrollment/Waiver period ends for returning Domestic students on May 22, 2024 for the Annual Term and for incoming Domestic students the enrollment/waiver period ends on May 31, 2024. For new or transfer students in the Winter Term, the enroll/waiver period will end on December 30, 2024. Domestic students who have not taken action to enroll or waive by that date will be automatically enrolled in the Bates College SHIP. The premium for the Bates College SHIP will be added to student accounts after May 22, 2024/May 31, 2024 for the Annual Term or after December 30, 2024 for the Winter Term.
