Cross Insurance Summer Internship Program

Kickstart Your Career Learning About the World of Risk Management

Our Summer Internship Program is a ten-week program filled with local business tours, job shadowing, and fun projects such as collaborating on video projects. Our interns get a behind the scenes look as to what it is like working in personal insurance, commercial insurance, employee benefits, and surety bonding. In addition, other career paths in the insurance industry are highlighted, including Information Technologies, Human Resources, Accounting, Legal, Operations, and more. Although our program is based out of our Portland, Maine office, interns will have the opportunity to travel to various offices, job sites, and business throughout the state of Maine.

Is the Cross Summer Internship a Paid Opportunity?

Our ten-week summer internship program is a paid internship. Interns will have the title of Emerging Risk Management Trainee. The internship is in person and for full time college students.

What are the Qualifications for the Internship Program?

We are seeking full time students entering their Junior or Senior year of college. Typically, students who are part of our program are pursuing a BA/BS in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Communications, or related fields of study. We look for students that are dependable team players, with solid listening skills. Other skills that we evaluate in potential interns are personal organization and attention to detail. If this sounds like you, we would love for you to apply.

What Will I Do as a Summer Intern?

As an Emerging Risk Management Trainee, you will gain knowledge of the different departments within our organization as you complete projects to support our team. Our interns conduct research on evolving industry topics, and analyze historical claims. Our Emerging Risk Management Trainee Program is based out of our Portland office, but you may have the opportunity to go on client tours, trade association events, and agency job shadowing assignments. In the past, our interns have created podcasts, helped with various video projects, and planned a social media campaign. We typically like to finish the program with a fun activity, such as axe throwing or mini golf. We always encourage our interns to be curious and ask questions, as the world of insurance and risk management is rapidly evolving.

What is the Schedule for this Internship Program?

Our Emerging Risk Management Trainees work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This program is based out of our Portland office, however, you may travel to other branches, companies, or job sites, so hours may vary due to travel.
